This system is designed for monitoring seismic zones, natural or civil structures (buildings, dams, bridges) affected by natural seismic events (earthquakes, seismic swarms) or anthropogenic activities (induced earthquakes from hydrocarbon extraction, quarry explosions). It is also suitable for surface and shallow seismic investigations aimed at exploring mineral resources or determining dynamic soil parameters. The system supports a variety of active and passive seismic studies, including reflection seismics, refraction seismics, and MASW (Multi-Channel Analysis of Surface Waves).
System Components
1. ELVIS VII P and S Wave Generator
The ELVIS VII is a P and S wave seismic generator. The source consists of a mobile mass driven by a cascaded linear motor, housed in a fully enclosed structure with adjustable pneumatic suspension to maximize seismic energy release under various surface conditions. It is used in reflection seismic investigations, vertical seismic profiling (VSP), and shear wave studies. The source is moved along the seismic line using a wheelbarrow-like device.
2. High-Resolution Surface Seismic Investigation System
This system includes various seismic equipment, accessories, and software for data acquisition and processing. It is used for active and passive seismic studies such as reflection seismics, refraction seismics, MASW (Multi-Channel Analysis of Surface Waves), and HVSR (Horizontal-to-Vertical Spectral Ratio).
- Geoda Seismograph: A 24-channel seismograph for high-resolution seismic prospecting, controlled via software installed on a laptop.
3. Wireless Seismic Acquisition System with Atom-3C Units (3 Components)
- Purpose: Atom-3C is a wireless seismograph designed for recording low-frequency seismic waves from passive sources (ambient seismic noise). It is used to determine surface wave velocities (Rayleigh and Love waves) and for HVSR studies.
- Setup: For HVSR, the system uses a single Atom-3C unit paired with a 2 Hz triaxial geophone. For Rayleigh-Love wave analysis, multiple Atom-3C units are deployed in an array configuration.
- Features: Each Atom-3C unit includes a 24-bit analog-to-digital converter, GPS, an internal battery, and WiFi for communication and data retrieval. Data can be downloaded simultaneously from multiple units via WiFi using a laptop or smartphone with Atom Downloader software.
- Data Storage: Standard internal storage of 8 GB (expandable to 32 GB) allows recording at a 4 ms sampling rate for up to 8 hours per day over 45 days.
4. Triaxial 2 Hz Geophones
These geophones are inserted into the ground in various configurations or networks to record vibrations generated by different signal sources during reflection or refraction seismic investigations.
5. Mobile Seismic Stations
The system includes 15 mobile seismic stations for temporary campaigns: 10 SP (short-period) and 5 BB (broadband) stations.
This versatile and advanced system enables high-quality seismic monitoring and analysis for a wide range of geological, environmental, and engineering applications.
