QuakeQuest: Immersive Educational Earthquake Simulation

QuakeQuest is a national research project devoted to the development of an immersive educational earthquake simulation platform that offers an interactive and realistic experience by sharing information, raising awareness, and educating in regards to risks associated with earthquakes and their effects, for learners of all ages.

QuakeQuest is financed by the Romanian Ministry for Education and Research, through CNCS/CCCDI – UEFISCDI, within the competition Experimental Demonstrative Project (project code PN-IV-P7-7.1-PED2024-1386).

Main deliverable

  • a state-of-the-art transportable smart technology equipped with monitoring sensors and connected to early warning services demonstrators, interactive digital and analog illustrative experiments, fully integrated and able to display relevant onsite and remote transmitted data and information adapted for various stakeholders. All the information presented is science-based but contextualized, making it easier to understand the measured parameters and their physical significance.

The scope is to educate the public to react to real-life scenarios like earthquakes and other natural disasters, by combining two state of the art technologies: a transportable shake table demonstrator surrounded by an immersive environment that recreates, using projection mapping, different possible locations where one can be at the moment of the earthquake.

Key objectives

Creating an accurate representation of seismic processes and their effects using state-of-the-art digital technologies and dedicated physical infrastructure

Designing educational content aligned with curriculum standards to facilitate learning objectives

Evaluating the effectiveness of the simulation in enhancing understanding and engagement among users

Establishing a scalable framework for future expansion and customization based on user feedback and emerging educational needs
