Integrated Thematic Services in Earth Observation – A National Platform for Innovation (SETTING)
The “SETTING” project is funded under the 2014-2020 Competitiveness Operational Programme, Priority Axis 1: Research, Technological Development, and Innovation (CDI) to support economic competitiveness and business development. The investment priority is PI1a, focusing on strengthening research and innovation (R&I) infrastructure and capacities for excellence, as well as promoting competence centers, especially those of European interest. The project is part of the POC-A.1-A.1.1.3-H-2016 call, under the RO-ESFRI-ERIC project type.

Purpose
To strengthen research and innovation in Earth Sciences and enhance participation in European research within the field.
Objectives
- Ensure visibility and access to interoperable multidisciplinary data in Earth Sciences.
- Develop and implement modern IT tools to facilitate standardization, integration, and access to large datasets.
- Coordinate and operate a distributed infrastructure capable of offering services, supporting new research, and generating innovative products.
Expected Results
- A national research platform populated with thematic services in Earth Sciences tailored for various user communities, including scientific, academic, private sector, and society at large.
- An inventory of infrastructures (organizations) hosting data, products, and services relevant to Earth Sciences, accessible through user-specific online tools.
- A detailed metadata database describing the data, products, and services available on the platform, including access conditions, licensing, and usage regulations.
Total Value
4,484,829.06 RON, of which the non-reimbursable eligible value is 3,943,497.65 RON (3,154,798.12 RON from the ERDF and 788,699.53 RON from the national state budget).
Implementation Period
30 months, from January 15, 2021, to June 30, 2023.
The SETTING project aims to facilitate innovative research and improve access to data and services in Earth Sciences, fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and society.
